About Us

The Church of Christ the King Eastington has a membership of 10 but the size of the Sunday Morning congregation is usually somewhat larger than this. The main service is at 11 am on Sunday and on the second of the month currently takes the form of a café church where we sit around tables. The café church services tend to be more interactive and usually involve a craft activity and/or videos to help get the message across. Other services usually start with 2 worship songs but are otherwise fairly traditional in format. The music ranges from the latest (we are up to Songs of Fellowship 6) to the better known older hymns.

The church is active for its size with multiple prayer meetings (over Zoom), Bible Studies and Youth activities taking place regularly. For a more comprehensive view of what is going on right now, please go to www.CoCtKE.org.uk.

The age profile of the congregation is currently towards the older end of the spectrum but we have been attracting some younger adults and children come at times particularly when it is a café church. Projection is used extensively for the worship song and hymn words as well as for video clips and presentations. We would like to re-establish a music group as the church grows.

The youth club is run on Friday evenings all year round. This typically attracts between 7 - 12 young people in the 11-18 age range. There is a God Byte slot during the evening usually lasting about 10-20 mins. Few, if any, of the young people have a living faith and some have to cope with difficult personal issues and backgrounds.

The challenge is to move beyond simply having contact with lots of people into the enabling of their spiritual growth into Christ Jesus.

Our ability to do more is currently being hampered by the limited number of adult Christians able to assist in the work.

Premises

When Eastington Methodist Church closed, the Methodist Church refused to pass on or sell the building to the new church. Instead, it was put out on the open market and was sold to a youth theatre company. The new owners are content to rent the building to us when they are not using it themselves. This has resulted in us still being able to use the building but without the responsibility to maintain and upgrade it ourselves. At this stage, this is quite helpful as it allows the church to concentrate on propagating the Gospel.

The building we use was originally a Methodist school hall. It is essentially a fairly large hall that is divided by partitions with a kitchen at one end and a 1960s side extension which provides an additional room and toilets. There is probably enough space for the congregation to grow to 50+ and possibly beyond if the new owner's upgrade aspirations come to fruition.

The building where we meet is located near the centre of the village of Eastington opposite the butchers and the postcode is GL10 3AA.

What We Believe

The church was set up because we wished to remain faithful to the Gospel of Christ and the authority of the Scriptures in the face of the Methodist Church deciding that it wished to follow secular society instead.

The Church of Christ the King Eastington is probably best described as a conservative (but not old fashioned) independent evangelical church. There is a lot of turmoil within the wider church as a whole and it may be that at some point we will wish to become associated with, or be part of, a larger grouping but there are no plans to do so at present.

The church's Statement of Faith can be found in the About Us section of the main web pages at www.coctke.org.uk.

We would expect that anyone joining us as a Pastor or Minister would be comfortable with the church's Statement of Faith and not preach or teach in conflict with it. This post is subject to an Occupational Requirement that the post holder is a committed evangelical Christian under Part 1 of Schedule 9 to the Equality Act 2010.

Governance

The church is set up and registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and is managed by a set of Trustees elected by the church membership. The Trustees meet roughly monthly and the Pastor/Minister would be expected to attend these meetings and play a key role in leading the church.

The church's Constitution can be found in the About Us section of the main web pages at www.coctke.org.uk.
